Community Changes
With summer holidays on the horizon we want to ensure that everyone is aware and educated about the health risks of climate related heatwaves. Learn what you can do to protect your family

1
More green spaces and parks
Increasing green spaces in urban areas , such as planting more trees, helps to cool the environment through shade. This can reduce temperatures by up to 8°C, making neighborhoods more livable during heatwaves.
Green spaces also improve air quality, reduce stress, and provide safe outdoor areas for children and families to enjoy, even on hot days. -
2
Upgrade our buildings
Retrofitting and upgrading existing buildings not only keeps us warmer in the winter, but cooler in the summer too. Improvements such as better insulation and reflective roofing can significantly reduce indoor temperatures during heatwaves.

Long term climate action
While adaptation measures are crucial, we also need to address the root cause of increasing heatwaves – climate change – to protect our health. This involves supporting policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all sections of society.
